Lincoln Christian used a 9-0 run to end the first half and watched the run turn into a 21-point lead, but Lincoln Lutheran closed the gap on Friday night at Lincoln Christian.
The Crusaders (3-1) defeated Lincoln Lutheran 58-51. The 21-point lead came midway through the third quarter. However, the Warriors forced 20 turnovers as they raced back to cut the lead to 11 when Henry Schmidt converted on a three-point play with 3:45 left.
Over the next 3 minutes, Lincoln Christian gave up 7 of their 20 turnovers and the Warriors capitalized. Logan Kreizel added a three and Schmidt converted on a put back to cut it to four, 53-49 with under 2:30 left.
Four points was the closest Lincoln Lutheran (2-2) would get. Caleb Canfield stretched the lead seven after two free throws with 30 seconds left in the game that made it 56-49.
Justin Bubak added five curtail points in the last minute to seal the win. He finished with 17. Treyson Biggler added 14 while Canfield had 11. Kreizel led the Warriors with 15 and Schmidt finished with 11.
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN GIRLS 71, LINCOLN LUTHERAN 60
Lincoln Christian remained unbeaten after holding off a late third quarter run from Lincoln Lutheran for a 71-60 win on Friday evening at Lincoln Christian.
The Warriors ended the third quarter on a 15-7 run capped by a Rachel Garbe basket before the run that was aided by a Mackenzie Keopke and Lexie Kreizel baskets.
The comeback continued after, Lincoln Lutheran (0-3) at one point trailed by 11, cut the lead to 58-55 when Paige Ravenscroft scored, but Chloe Dworak answered with a 3 that kept the game out of reach with 3:33 left.
Dworak’s basket sparked a 6-0 run that included two free throws from Ashlyn Power and back-to-back baskets from Michelle Gailserova. That run stretched the Crusader lead to 64-55.
Gailserova led Lincoln Christian (4-0) with 29 as the rest of the Crusader offense was stymied. Taytem Coleman finished with 13, while Power and Dwoark added 10 and 11 respectively. Ravenscroft led Lutheran with 18 points.
