09/28/2005 - Northeast and Southwest take Class A show on road.....Pius X and Waverly meet in Class B clash

Friday marks the start of a pivotal point in the season for a few Lincoln area high school football teams trying to stay on the winning track. In Class A, Southwest takes an impressive 4-0 mark on the road to Columbus to meet the Discoverers for a 7pm kickoff at Pawnee Park. The Silverhawks are coming off a 23-13 win over Grand Island last Thursday to keep an undefeated mark in the Class A top ten. Meanwhile, 3-1 Northeast heads further up the road on Highway 81 to meet up with a respectable football team in Norfolk. Last Friday, the Rockets downed Fremont 23-7 on the road as they continue to rebound from a loss to Southeast from three weeks ago.

Other Lincoln area games on the docket for this weekend: Lincoln High vs. Southeast on Thursday night, while East meets North Star Friday night. Each game kicks off at 7pm at Seacrest Field.

The highlight game of the weekend features Pius X heading up Highway 6 to meet Waverly in a rematch of last season's Class B playoff semi-final. Despite falling to Omaha Skutt in their second game of the year, the Thunderbolts have continued to regain momentum by downing Hastings two weeks ago and shutting out Ralston last week. Waverly's only loss was to Seward at home back on September 16th and managed to defeat Crete on the road 47-14 last Friday night. The Vikings are doing well so far without graduates Jim Tvrdy, Brandon Dondlinger and Alex Woita, who were among the key components to their offensive success last season. Pius, however, has demonstrated they are mad dog tough and will be ready for a donnybrook with Waverly at Viking Stadium Friday night. Kickoff is at 7pm and you can hear all the play-by-play with Jeff Motz and Dave Sanderson on Lincoln Prep Sports.com.

Other games of note for Lincoln area schools: Lincoln Lutheran at Wymore Southern, Lincoln Christian is at Falls City, while Raymond Central is at David City Aquinas and Malcolm is at East Butler.
