06/12/2019 - BASEBALL: Parker Returns To Northeast As New Head Baseball Coach

By Jeff Motz
LincolnPrepSports.com

LINCOLN–Kyle Parker served as an assistant coach for the Lincoln Northeast baseball team during a couple of great runs to the state tournament in 2007 and 2012, where the Rockets finished runner-up at the Class A tournament.

Parker, a 2002 Northeast graduate and former baseball player for the Rockets, returns to his alma mater to become the school’s new head baseball coach.  He’s the fifth-straight Northeast alum to serve as head coach (Bill Fagler, Jerome Ehrlich, Jerry Dittenber and Jeff Fagler).  Parker takes over for Jeff Fagler, who stepped down from the job recently but plans to remain at Northeast as a teacher.

Parker served as an assistant coach in different capacities for the Rockets and their Legion baseball teams from 2005 to 2015.  He was hired as the head coaching job at Waverly in 2016.  In four seasons, he compiled a 60-37 record, while his teams broke numerous Waverly school records.

While at Waverly, Parker coached the Vikings to a district title and NSAA state tournament appearance in his first season.  He also coached Waverly’s Legion team to a Class B state title in 2017, while winning the Eastern Nebraska summer league championship twice.

Waverly won back to back Eastern Midlands Conference titles under Parker in 2018 and ’19, while finishing district runner-up in both seasons, but qualified for the NSAA Class B State Tournament as a wildcard this spring and finished No. 4 in the rankings.

A search is underway to find Parker’s successor at Waverly.  Parker will continue his position as a fourth grade teacher at Riley Elementary School in Lincoln.
