Class A No. 7 Omaha Creighton Prep had to go overtime Saturday evening to edge ratings contender Lincoln North Star.
The Junior Jays got 30 points from Nebraska basketball commit Akol Arop in a 77-71 victory over the Navigators, who were led by 6-5 junior guard and fellow Husker recruit Donovan Williams' 36 points and 12 rebounds.
Prep (15-3) got a three pointer from senior guard Robert Peters with 1:58 left in overtime to go up 70-67. Then a steal from Spencer Schomers led to an Arop dunk to extend the Junior Jays lead to five with 1:20 to play.
North Star (8-7) trimmed their deficit to two, 73-71, with 28 seconds remaining off four free throws from Williams. The Gators forced a Prep turnover, but Williams' three-point attempt missed.
Prep sealed the came with four free throws from Schomers and Thomas Faber, who added 15 points for the Junior Jays.
North Star trailed 39-33 at halftime, but got a spark in the third quarter from sophomore Kwat Abdelkarim, scoring 12 of his 22 points in the period to tie the game at 53. Williams then converted on a one-and-one with 1:28 remaining in regulation for a 64-64 tie.
