09/21/2018 - FOOTBALL: Jordon Runs Wild, As Waverly Disposes of Norris

By Jeff Motz

WAVERLY---Waverly quarterback Rhett Jordon put up impressive numbers Friday night, with 380 total yards and five touchdowns to help the Class B No. 5 Vikings defeat No. 7 Norris 48-16 before an estimated crowd of 2,000 on Homecoming at Viking stadium.

Jordon was the spark of the Waverly offense.  Norris, though, was limiting the Viking running game---prompting Jordon to go to the air and find receiver Jay Adams on an 83-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 first quarter advantage with 5:47 left.

Norris (2-3) got a 26-yard field goal from Aaron Williams.  But Waverly (4-1) responded again, as Jordon scored his first touchdown from 64-yards out.  Norris then countered when senior running back Zach Serna ran 51-yards for a touchdown and narrowed the Titans' deficit to 14-10.

From there, Waverly's offensive line got physical and their defense stymied the Titan offense from getting any consistent flow the rest of the game.

Ethan Kastens scored from 4-yards out with just under four minutes left in the first half, then Jordon added a 60-yard scoring strike with 1:41 before halftime to extend Waverly's lead to 28-10.

Norris scored their final touchdown with two minutes remaining in the third quarter on a 41-yard touchdown reception by Jon Kroese.

Waverly continued to unload on Norris' defense.  Jordon capped a quick drive with 10:40 left in the game with a 2-yard touchdown run.  He followed up with one from 13-yards out with 7:35 to play and Kaleb Canoyer added a 6-yard touchdown run to seal the win with 5:30 remaining.

Offensively, Waverly finished with 482 yards of offense, 318 on the ground.  It comes two weeks after the Vikings had 587 total yards, three shy of the school record, in a victory over Omaha Roncalli.
