Season Outlook: After being hit by the injury bug a year ago, East could surprise a few teams this season. The first four games are against city teams, before hosting Bellevue East on Sept. 20. Lincoln North Star is their final city opponent on Sept. 27, which also marks the start of district play. Experience may carry the Spartans through some tough games. Twin brothers Braden and Barrett Sellon provide some physicality, with Braden being an All-City pick last season. Blake Ingamells is a returning All-City selection and could be key at running back in the East backfield. In addition to having Devin Beckner returning at quarterback, the Spartans add Lincoln Lutheran transfer Zach Clausen, who threw for over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a freshman and sophomore. Clausen, who missed most of last season with a broken foot, was key in some playoff success for the Warriors. He could be the hidden ingredient East needs to fuel their offense. |
