- BASEBALL: Westside Rallies To Beat North Star
By Jeff Motz
Just as Omaha Westside lost momentum, they somehow found a spark at the plate in the sixth inning against Lincoln North Star.
The Warriors counted on a four-run rally and held on to beat the Navigators 7-5 Friday afternoon at Sherman Field.
Westside's Brett Curran sparked the rally when he connected on a three-run double to right field that put the Warriors back in control. Then Curran scored on a double to right-centerfield from Michael Reinert.
Curran, who was working as the third Warrior pitcher, got help in the bottom of the sixth by retiring the Navigators 1-2-3.
Westside (6-1) got off to an early start, after the first two batters were retired. Cam Kully delivered an RBI double, then later scored off a single from Brian Leiferman and put the Warriors up 2-0 midway through the first.
Declan Cain drove in Logan Eickhoff from third for an RBI single and Westside's lead went to 3-0 in the top of the third.
North Star (2-1) got on the scoreboard in the third inning, then scored two runs off a wild pitch and an error at the plate in the fourth. The Gators took control in the fifth when Garrett Grunder's RBI single scored Mike Bailey from third.
After reaching base on a dropped strike three, Justin Lottman eventually scored on an RBI single from Christian Harris and North Star led 5-3 heading to the sixth inning.
North Star out hit Westside 10-6 in the game, while each team committed an error.
