- BOYS BASKETBALL: Balance Helps East In Win Over Westside
By Jeff Motz
Lincoln East showed just how balanced of a team they can be this year.
The Spartans managed to hit free throws late and had three players in double-figures in a 59-49 win over Omaha Westside in boys basketball Saturday night at the East gym.
East jumped out to an 11-2 first quarter lead, before Westside trimmed the deficit down to 15-9 heading into the second quarter.
The Spartans (6-0) got inside help during a stretch of the second quarter, with reserve post players Gage Pohlmeier and Christian Wilke each scoring. East led at the break 29-18.
Sam Griesel, Jordan Janssen and Anthony Marfisi (who each scored 12 points) helped the Spartans pull away from Westside, when the Warriors got as close as nine points in the second half.
Jadin Booth had 18 points, while 6-6 postman Chase Thompson added 17 for Westside, who dropped to 3-3.
