- FOOTBALL: Gators Grind Out First Win Against Packers
By Jeff Motz
Lincoln North Star came in to Friday night's game with Omaha South with a bit of a chip on their shoulder.
Their loss to Norfolk by one point last week still weighed heavy on the Gators, who have dealt with injuries to key players this season.
However, a grind it out offense behind a protective line helped North Star to a 35-0 shutout of Omaha South before an announced crowd of 1,854 at Seacrest Field.
The Gators (1-4) got some steam going with their offense after a scoreless first quarter. Luke Reimer had a 27-yard catch for the first touchdown with 10:54 in the second quarter, then Wiech Nuot ran 43-yards for a touchdown with 5:22 in the half for a 14-0 North Star lead.
Reimer, who had 108 receiving yards and 74 on the ground, then scored to open up the second half on the first play from scrimmage on a 65-yard run. North Star mounted a late third quarter drive that was capped with 11:55 to go in the fourth on a 10-yard scoring run from Anthony Kirby.
Nuot scored again for the Gators from 30-yards out with 9:34 to play. He finished with 120 yards rushing. Garrett Isom ran for 66 yards, as part of the Gators' 263 yards of total offense.
