From The Press Box

Did this first week of football action prove that Lincoln team are not to be reckoned with in Class A?

Sure seemed that way.

Thursday night, Lincoln Southwest completely dismantled Papillion-LaVista 69-34, scoring the most points against any Silver Hawk opponent since the 84-0 drubbing of Lincoln High in 2005.

Southwest has a nice combination of a run-pass offense.  Jacob Buckner and Caden McCormick are solid running backs.  Justin Holm, we know a lot about him as a receiver.  His 15-yard touchdown reception came in handy in the first half that put the Silver Hawks up by 14.

How about senior quarterback Jakob Ahlschwede?  He threw for 107 yards and that Holm touchdown pass, plus he scored twice on 66-yard and 71-yard runs.

Defensively, the Silver Hawks caused fits all night on the Papio offense and limited one of the state's top running backs, Jerome Barnes, from having a break out night (28 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown).

Switch to Friday, Lincoln Southeast wasted no time in taking care of Lincoln Northeast, cruising to a 37-0 over a young Rocket club with some signs of good talent.

Southeast lineman and Wisconsin recruit Bryson Williams scored on a 1-yard run as the fullback in the Maryland I offense on the Knights opening drive, then scored late in the first quarter.

Jack Strong, Southeast's four-year veteran quarterback, has options to work with in the offense.  As for the Knights on defense, they're just as stout.  Look for them to put up a great fight against Southwest in the Friday 4:30pm game at Seacrest Field, which you can hear only on

Lincoln East, fresh off their Class A semifinal finish a year ago, started the season on the road at Norfolk Friday night and came away with a 21-13 win in a nailbiter.
