Anderson Ford fought back twice Friday afternoon to secure an upset over Judds Brothers Construction in the Area 5 Senior Legion Baseball Tournament.
The team from Lincoln North Star scored the go ahead run in the top of the 8th inning and made a game-ending double play to secure a 5-4 victory over Judds of Lincoln Northeast at Sherman Field.
The Area 5 Senior Legion Tournament continues Saturday with the 1pm elimination game with Judds against Sampson Construction of Lincoln High, who fell to No. 2 seed Pinnacle Bank of Lincoln Southwest 13-3 in 8 innings Friday night.
Anderson Ford got a lead off single in the top of the 8th from Kaden Barnes, who advanced to third on a sac bunt from Wade Diest. Then a past ball allow Barnes to score that gave the Gators a 5-4 advantage.
Judds, though, had the meat of their batting order coming up in the bottom of the ninth. However, Talon Little led off with a line out to Diest at third, then Caden Highsmith reached on an error. Jacob Stewart lined to second, then Highsmith was bottled up trying to advance when Garrett Grunder threw to Jake Mangels at first for the game-ending double play.
Anderson Ford rallied for four runs and five hits in the fifth inning. Trent Irland and Justin Lottman each singled and after Treyton Scully popped out to short and Grudner walked, Aidan Bishop delivered a two-run single.
Barnes then scored Grudner off a single and Diest's single to left field scored Bishop to put Anderson Ford up 4-2.
Judds rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Jacob Wozny picked up a lead-off double, then scored off a single from Carlos Knowles. A few batters later, Knowles scored of a sac-fly from Jacob Stewart, which tied the game at 4.
Earlier in the game, Judds struck right away in the bottom of the first when Little doubled and later scored when Highsmith was forced out at second and Jacob Stewart reached on a fielder's choice. Sam Steinmeyer scored the second run in the fourth inning, after initially reaching on an error.
Lottman earned the win, pitching seven innings while giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out six Judds batters. Relief pitcher Christian Harris earned the save.
Joe Richter took the loss for the Hard Hats, allowing five runs, seven hits and striking out seven Anderson Ford hitters.
