- BASEBALL: Richter Pitches One-Hit Shutout, as LNE Run Rules Links
By Jeff Motz
Joe Richter was perfect on the mound through four innings and helped Lincoln Northeast to an 11-0, 5 inning victory over Lincoln High in high school baseball Monday at Sherman Field.
Richter, a junior right-hander, had a no-hitter going until the fourth inning, when Bobby Mercier's single to right field gave the Links their only hit of the game. Richter struck out five, allowed no runs, one hit and allowing one walk for the Rockets; who improved to 9-7 on the season.
Northeast's bats got going in the bottom of the first inning, after Carlos Knowles reached on an error, then advancing on a ground out from Talon Little and scored off a balk committed by Lincoln High pitcher Cameron Wynne. Caden Highsmith walked, then scored as part of a two-run double from Sam Steinmeyer. Steinmeyer later scored off an RBI single from Donovan Speer, as the Rockets led 5-0.
Northeast added three runs in the second and three in the third to help Richter capitalize on the mound.
Wynne took the Loss for Lincoln High (5-12), pitching one and one-third inning, giving up eight runs, three hits and striking out one.
