By Kellan Heavican
Lincoln East led by 26 points at halftime and never looked back and crushed Omaha Bryan in the semi-finals of the District A-5 tournament 66-35 on Tuesday evening at East High School.
Bryan and East met on Friday night and the Spartans trailed by six entering the break, this time however was different. Regan Sankey scored 15 of her game-high 20 points before the break. Allison Roh and Rachel Weber combined for 11 to help build the cushion.
The Spartan defense came out strong, too. They forced 23 turnovers and held the Bears to 10 first-half points. The second-half lead grew to as many as 38 after Bryan hit late baskets.
Sierra Leeper led the Bears (4-19) with nine points. Morghan Mace aided eight along with seven from Sierra Roseby. Roh and Weber finished with eight for East (18-6). 14 different Spartans scored in the contest.
The reigning Class A state champions will host Lincoln Southeast, who beat Omaha Benson 55-41, on Thursday night. Both teams have beaten each other this season. Tip off is scheduled for 7 pm.
