By Kellan Heavican
WAVERLY---Waverly exploded for 19 first-quarter points and never looked back en route to a 57-35 win on Friday night during their last home game at Waverly.
Tanner Wubbels ignited the crowd after back-to-back alley-oops with assists to Greyson Skrobecki. Wubbels had 10 points heading into the break; he finished with 11.
Nebraska City started to chip away at a 20-point halftime deficit and pulled within 13 midway through the third quarter, but the Vikings responded. With 4:24 left, a Brennen Bales basket pulled them within 44-30.
However, the Vikings (8-12) responded to end the game on a 13-3 run. During that run Skrobecki hit three of four foul shots, while Wubbles hit one, along with Reese Kroger, Brenden Grosshans and Merrick Deger was the only Viking to hit both of his shots.
Deger added 10 points along with Ben Carter for Waverly. Nebraska City (4-16) received a 21-point performance from Bales. Jared Nemec added eight.
