- GIRLS BASKETBALL: East Withstands Lincoln High Fourth-Quarter Comeback

Lincoln East survived four separate scoring runs from Lincoln High on Friday night to hold on for a 56-49 win on Thursday night at Lincoln East.
The Spartans raced out to a 15-4 first-quarter lead, before the Links responded to close out the first frame on a 9-0 run capped by three pointers from Mariah Cates and Sirilia Herrera.
Opening the second quarter, East responded with a 9-2 run themselves thanks to a pair of baskets from Rachel Weber and one from Allison Roh to take a 24-15 lead. However, the Links (9-9) would respond, again, cutting a nine-point deficit to a 29-24 game at halftime.
Both squads went back and forth in the third period, but in the final quarter Lincoln High pulled within 3, 48-45. Herrera used back-to-back three’s to cap an 8-2 run with 2:25 left. Lincoln East responded by hitting 8 of 16 free throws down the stretch and forced missed shots.
Herrera finished with a game-high 17 points for Lincoln High. Weber and Roh led East (12-6) with 14. Regan Sankey also aided 12 for the Spartans.
