01/07/2017 - BOYS BASKETBALL: Southeast Escapes With Home Win Over Westside

Omaha Westside came close, but not close enough.

After dropping two games against top 10 Class A teams when leading by the double digits in the second half, Lincoln Southeast finally held on by defeating the Warriors 68-60 Saturday afternoon at the Prasch Activities Building.

Isaiah Curry’s three pointer with 4:59 left in the third quarter gave the Knights a 11-point cushion.  A pair of baskets by Ryan O’Neal ignited a 9-0 Westside run to pull within in 47-45 to close the third period.

Opening the final frame, Sherrod Davison scored a three to push the lead to five but Westside would still hang around.  Both squads traded baskets and free throws, but the Warriors caught a break when Jadin Booth drilled a three to pull them within 63-60 with :56 left.

Southeast (5-6) iced the game from the foul line hitting 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch.  Westside had one more chance to pull within a possession, but O’Neal’s scooping layup fell short forcing Westside to foul Michael Anderson who nailed both free throws to push the game back to 66-60.  Westside failed to find a clean look before Brayden Day closed out the win at the charity stripe.

Davison led Southeast with 20 and Day finished with 18.  Chase Thompson had 15 first-half points but only finished with 21 for the Warriors (3-8).  O’Neal finished with 18.
