By Jeff Motz
FIRTH---Down ten heading into the fourth quarter, the Norris girls basketball team found a way to overcome foul trouble and force overtime.
The Class B No. 8 Titans got a boost from forward McKenna Sullivan and senior center Anna Barent by earning a 54-51 win over No. 10 Waverly Friday night at Norris Middle School.
Norris (8-2) trailed 39-29 after three periods before embarking on a 19-9 run. That included a steal and layup by guard Rylie Bryant with 1:52 left in regulation, giving the Titans a 47-46 lead. Then Sullivan hit one of two free throws about 30 seconds later before Waverly countered with a basket from Emily Clarke that tied the game at 48 and ultimately forced overtime.
Waverly (5-4) jumped ahead in overtime off a quick basket from Sydni Schernikau, but Norris took control off three free throws from Sullivan and a basket from Maddy Ramsey to hold on for the win.
Taylor Cockerill scored 16 points for Waverly. Barent led Norris with 16 points, while Sullivan had 11 before fouling out in overtime and Valerie Gabel added 10 points.
