- BOYS BASKETBALL: East Earns Second HAC Title With Win Over LNE

Free throws sealed Lincoln East's 2nd-straight Heartland Athletic Conference boys basketball championship on Saturday afternoon, as the Spartans earned a 55-52 win over Lincoln Northeast at Lincoln North Star High School.
East (6-2) rallied late in the third quarter when Sam Griesel scored on a fast break, then teammate Alex Aldana added another basket for a 40-37 lead.
The Spartans expanded their lead with 4:34 left in the game, after Pete Ackerman hit a pair of free throws off a technical foul, then he added a three-pointer for a 47-40 advantage.
Northeast got as close as 53-50 when Tyson Shadegg drove the lane for a basket with 24 seconds left. Griesel hit a pair of free throws to seal the win, despite a late dunk from Northeast's Trace Tupper as the buzzer sounded.
Griesel scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the first half, while Ackerman helped the Spartans with 15 points, 11 of those in the second half.
Northeast (6-3) was led by Malcolm Whitlow's 18 points, while Tupper added 17.
