- BOYS BASKETBALL: Northeast Cooled Off By Prep's Defense
By LincolnPrepSports.com Staff
For an inexperienced team, Omaha Creighton Prep showed how they could shutdown an experienced boys basketball team like Lincoln Northeast.
The Class A No. 10-ranked Junior Jays also managed to go on an 11-0 fourth quarter run to beat the No. 3 Rockets 57-42 Thursday night at the Ed Johnson Gym.
Prep managed to keep Northeast's top scorers---Malcolm Whitlow, Trace Tupper and Tyson Shadegg---to a combined total of 12 points.
The Junior Jays had a 39-30 lead going into the fourth quarter when Kevin Luedtke connected on a three-pointer and a free throw. Then a basket from Grant Mattheis and two free throws and a three-point play from Jayden Temme put Prep out of reach at 50-30 with 5:04 left in the game.
Northeast (0-1) managed to shoot 11-of-44 from the field, 6-of-19 from three-point range and were 50 percent from the free throw line on 14-of-28 shooting.
Senior forward Noah Thompson led the Rockets with eight points. Prep was paced by Temme's 15 points, while Akol Arop and Luedtke each added 12 points in the Junior Jay victory.
