- FOOTBALL: Knights Shake Off Rough Start To Blank Chieftains
By Kellan Heavican
Lincoln Southeast shook off two early first half turnovers and a lethargic offense to speed past Bellevue East 28-0 on homecoming afternoon Friday at Seacrest Field.
Backup quarterback Jampe Gergen overcame a fumble and threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown came with :07 left in the first half as Gergen hit Sterling Smith from 60 yards out to give LSE a 14-0 lead going into the break.
LSE running back Kipp Hergenrader also had a two-touchdown performance. He scored early in the third quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run that capped an 8-play 57-yard drive. Gergen hit Brian Meyer with 3 minutes to go in the third quarter on a 74-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring at 28-0.
Bellevue East only had one first down in the first half. Quarterback Jaxon Walls left the field with a left knee injury and did not return in the third quarter and Charles Semanko threw three interceptions but led the Chieftains to 185 yards in offense.
Without starting quarterback Jack Strong, the Knights improve to 6-1 with the win and Bellevue East falls to 1-6 on the season. LSE travels to Omaha South next week.
