- FOOTBALL: Lutheran Holds Off Malcolm Late
By Kellan Heavican
Lincoln Lutheran used early Malcolm miscues to race out to a 20-0 first quarter lead to hold on 20-14 to have a homecoming win Friday night Abel Stadium.
The Warriors (4-1) used a Beau Sacket interception and a bad snap on fourth down to open the scoring. Warrior running back Sam Rathe scored a 24-yard touchdown run and then quarterback Zach Clausen hooked up with Loan Kreizel and Isaac Zager on a 24 and 11- yard touchdown passes.
In the second frame, on two separate possessions, Malcolm used a short field and a 41-yard punt return by Adam Steward to move the ball into the red zone before Sacket scored on fourth and goal from the one both times. Lincoln Lutheran led 20-14 at the break.
Malcolm used two defensive red zone stops to keep the score the same in the second half. Steward intercepted Clausen and the Clippers forced a missed 29-yard field goal.
The Clippers (1-4) didn’t have enough offense to tie the game. Lincoln Lutheran stopped Malcolm on 4th and 5 with under 4 minutes left. Malcolm got the ball back with one play left but Sacket’s hail-marry was knocked down as time expired.
