- BASEBALL: North Star's Offense Too Much For Lincoln High
By Kellan Heavican
The Lincoln North Star batters jumped on Lincoln High pitcher De’Angelo Sommers early and often on Thursday evening at Sherman Field.
The Navigators racked up 11 runs on nine hits, including two errors, in an 11-1 win in five innings. The damage came in the first in fourth innings where the Gators accumulated seven of their nine hits.
Sommer’s start was less than ideal. After walking and hitting the fist two North Star batters, Wade Deist hit a single to left, followed by a sacrifice from Trevor Marreel, and then a wild pitch scored Logan Cale. The damaged continued after Chris Van Dusen recorded a RBI single to open the game up 4-0.
The Links (5-16) responded in the second inning after a lead-off single from Jake Evans. A single from Sommers moved Evans to third. Then, Justice Brown hit a one-run RBI double, to close the gap to 4-1.
The North Star (9-12) bats got even hotter in the fourth inning. Singles from Logan Cale, Austin Herzog, Marreel, a double from Van Dusen, and then a triple from Dillon Ertz capped of a five-run fourth inning.
Navigator pitcher Wade Deist threw a complete game and captured the win while Sommers received the loss.
