- CLASS D2 BOYS BASKETBALL: Mead Gets Boost In Win Over Parkview Christian
By Jeff Motz
One shot turned the tide in Parkview Christian's storied basketball season.
A three-pointer from Alex Quinn gave Mead a two point lead into the fourth quarter and the Raiders held off the Patriots 46-36 in the Class D2 boys basketball tournament semifinals Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Quinn's three sparked an 18-10 Mead run the rest of the game and most importantly, the Raider defense kept Parkview's Henry Tanksley from a breakout scoring performance.
Quinn hit six free throws in the final quarter to help seal the win for Mead, who will play Humphrey St. Francis for the D2 Championship Saturday at 4:30pm inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The Raiders led 7-5 after the first quarter, part of what became a 10-0 run for Mead. Parkview answered by getting three, three-pointers from Tucker Pinyan that gave the Patriots a 17-16 halftime lead.
Pinyan led all scorers with 14 points to lead Parkview. Tanksley finished with eight points, well below his season average of 21 per game. Dylan Taylor scored a team-high nine points for Mead, all of which came in the second half.
