- BOYS A-6 DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Rockets Go OT To Make State Tourney Trip
By Kellan Heavican
OMAHA---Lincoln Northeast needed four extra minutes to avenge their first loss of the season to Millard West on Monday evening to clinch their third straight state tournament birth.
The Rockets (16-9) used Tyson Shadegg's three pointer on the opening possession of overtime to grab a three-point advantage en route to a 68-63 upset of the Wildcats.
Shadegg finished with three 3's and 13 points.
The Wildcats fell behind 35-31 at the break but used a 15-5 performance in the third quarter to grab a 46-40 lead. Millard West (16-9) shut down Trace Tupper in that frame holding him to zero points.
But, freshman Malcolm Whitlow did everything for the Rockets. His floater with 3:07 left in regulation tied the game. Tupper assisted in the fourth quarter comeback with 7 points.
Logan Anderjaska helped keep the Millard West in overtime with a lay in that cut the Rocket lead with 25 seconds to go before Whitlow iced the game from the free throw line.
Anderjaska led the Wildcats with 14. Whitlow finished with a game-high 23 points and Tupper finished with 20.
