- BOYS A-5 DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Spartans Take Off Past Links
By Jeff Motz
All it took for Lincoln East to pull away from Lincoln High Saturday night was a 12-0 second quarter run.
The Spartans capitalized from there and took care of business, winning 76-47 over the Links in the semifinals of the A-5 boys district basketball tournament at the East Gym.
East (19-5) will now have a rematch with Norfolk (17-8) Tuesday night in the A-5 championship in the same setting as their last meeting Feb. 13, which the Panthers upset the Spartans 58-49 on their home court.
After a 15-10 first quarter lead, East broke away after Lincoln High closed the gap 20-16. Sophomore center Jordan Janssen hit a pair of free throws, then Clay Reimers scored off a Janssen pass. Sam Griesel hit a three-pointer, then Reimers scored again off an assist from Nate Netz. Griesel then buried another three pointer during the 12-0 run for a 32-16 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Reimers continued to dominate the inside, as he scored 10 of his team-high 17 points, including a couple of two-hand dunks. East continued to roll and run away with the win.
Janssen added 13 points in the Spartan win, while Griesel ended up with 10 points.
Lincoln High got a pair of 21-point performances from senior Aundra Gilbert and sophomore Jaylin Hunter. Two other Link players (Jaden Horton with four and one from Ruon Chuol) combined for five points.
