- GIRLS A-7 DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Spartans Quick Start Spells Doom For Chieftains

Lincoln East wasted no time jump ahead of Bellevue East Tuesday night.
The Spartans jumped out to an early 14 point lead and never looked back in a 56-39 victory over the Chieftains in the semifinals of the Girls A-7 district basketball semifinals at the East Gym.
The win for East put them in the A-7 Championship Thursday night, hosting defending Class A state champion Omaha Westside.
East’s Grace Barry had seven quick first quarter points. The Chieftains only trailed by three with 3 minutes left in the opening quarter. Barry’s three-point play gave the Spartans a six-point advantage.
The Spartans (19-5) would extend their lead to 30-12 with two minutes before the break thanks to a basket from Elyssa Jurgens and triple from Madison Kruger. Bellevue East used back-to-back threes from Victoria Mullen and Brandi Menephee to cut the lead to 12, 30-18 at the break.
In the third quarter, the deficit grew to as much as 22 points. The Spartans outscored Bellevue East (8-15) 14-3 in the final frame. Jurgens led Lincoln East with 13 and Barry finished with 9. Joslyn Brewer led the way with 13 points and Menephee contributed 12 for the Chieftains.
