- BOYS BASKETBALL: Cale's 25 Points Sparks Gators Over Bears
By Jeff Motz
Logan Cale didn't get into the flow of the basketball game Friday night until the second half.
But the senior guard exploded for 18 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to help Lincoln North Star to a 63-56 win over Omaha Bryan at The Swamp.
Cale was limited to three first half points, which included a drive to the basket to score and a free throw to complete a three-point play. He hit two field goals in the third quarter, helping the Gators to a 42-40 lead.
Cale hit all ten of his fourth quarter free throws that kept North Star (7-7) ahead by five points or more.
Bryan (2-9) got as close as 54-50 after Komach Ruon hit one of two free throws for his team-high 19 points. North Star slowly pulled away relying on Cale's free throws and a three-point play from 6-5 sophomore center Dillon Brandt to hold off any comeback from the Bears.
After a 15-14 first quarter lead, the Gators had six players score a field goal apiece to extend their lead to 29-24 at halftime.
North Star's young inside presence of Brandt and 6-6 junior Brock Johnson combined for 20 points, each finishing with 10 in the game. South Dakota recruit Triston Simpson was kept under double-digits and finished with eight points for North Star, the winner of three-straight games.
Goy Lew was the only other player in double figures for Bryan with 12 points.
