Austin Wubbels struggled offensively for much of the game, but he came through late for his Waverly teammates.
The 6-7 senior forward scored six of his 10 points in the final minute, including a pivotal basket to help the Vikings to a 46-42 win over Class C1 tenth-ranked Lincoln Lutheran Tuesday night at Lutheran.
Wubbels scored off a pass from younger brother, 6-6 sophomore Tanner Wubbels, to tie the game at 42 with 24 seconds left. The Vikings (6-7) trailed 38-34 with 3:30 remaining after Lutheran's Grant Johnson hit a three-pointer and finished the game by overcoming the Warriors on a 12-4 run.
After 20-20 tie at halftime, Lutheran took control early when senior Garrett Wachal scored six of his team-high 14 points in the third quarter by converting on two, three-point plays. A quick Waverly rally led by Ben Warner and Tanner Wubbels helped the Vikings to a 26-all game after three quarters.
