10/24/2015 - FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Northeast, North Star, Pius X and Waverly Qualify

LINCOLN -- Despite losses in the final regular season games on Friday night, Lincoln Northeast and Lincoln North Star each have qualified for the 2015 NSAA Class A State High School Football Playoffs, which start Oct. 30.

The Rockets (4-5) fell to Omaha Burke 56-53 to end the regular season, while the Navigators (also 4-5 and this year's city champion) rallied but fell short to Lincoln Southwest 21-13.  The losses didn't hurt Northeast and North Star as much as originally thought.

Northeast's opponent in the first round of the playoffs will be against second-seeded and top-ranked Millard West on Oct. 30th at Lyle Buell Stadium in Omaha.  Kickoff time hasn't been determined because Millard North, who is seeded No. 5 in the playoffs, will host a game a Buell Stadium the same day against 12th-seed Kearney.

North Star will play at top-seed and undefeated Bellevue West on Oct. 30 at 7pm.

In Class B, Lincoln Pius X, who won the B-5 District title over Beatrice Friday night, will be the 10th-seed and play at 7th-seeded Grand Island Northwest Oct. 30.  Waverly, who lost to undefeated Plattsmouth for the B-4 district title, squeeks into the playoffs with a No. 15 seed.  The Vikings will face No. 2 seed and defending state champion Omaha Skutt on Oct. 30 at Skutt.

LincolnPrepSports.com's playoff coverage will be determined by Monday morning.  Stay tuned and check back to see which game we plan to cover in the opening round of the playoffs.
