- FOOTBALL: Papio Finds Offense In Second Half In Victory Over North Star
By Jeff Motz
After a first half of nothing but defense, Papillion-LaVista found a way midway through the third quarter to score.
The Monarchs took control and held on for a 21-6 victory Friday night over Lincoln North Star at the Beechner Athletic Complex.
Despite 47-yards in penalties in the first half, Papillion-LaVista mustered a drive that was capped off on a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chad Lechtenberg to David Richardson on a 4th down and 8 play to put the Monarchs up 7-0 with 6:44 in the 3rd.
With 9:30 left in the game, Lechtenberg commanded another drive that set up a two-yard touchdown pass to Braxton Fonyonga for a 14-0 Papio lead. Running back Nate White sealed the win with a 24-yard touchdown run to put the Monarchs up 21-0.
North Star (3-4) avoided the shutout when they mounted a late drive and quarterback Trevin Ball found Braden Dey on a 18-yard scoring pass with 2:14 left.
Papillion-LaVista (4-3) is now 3-1 in District play. North Star would need two more wins to qualify for the playoffs. Next week, the Navigators face an up and coming Lincoln High team, who defeated Lincoln Southwest 21-20 Friday afternoon after the Links intercepted a pass after a botched extra-point attempt with no time remaining.
North Star and Southwest are the regular season finale in two weeks at Seacrest Field.
