Lincoln High did something Friday afternoon they hadn't done in 25 years. The Links got a 29-yard field goal from Paul Muragizi as time ran out in the game to earn a 10-7 victory over Lincoln Southeast at Seacrest Field.
The last time Lincoln High beat Southeast was 1990, at least eight years before many of the current players were born.
Still, for the Links, the win marked a big stepping stone for their season and improve their record to 2-4.
The Knights (1-5) had to punt away with 2:42 remaining in the game, giving Lincoln High the ball at the 21-yard line. Two quick pass plays from Jackson Mallory to Aundra Gilbert for a 37-yard gain and another for 15-yards, setting up a short carry for Terry Jones from the Southeast 18-yard line.
Muragizi got two chances on the field goal for the win. The first attempt went wide right as Southeast called time out. He nailed the second try and brought the Links out onto the field for the celebration.
Lincoln High opened up the game with a 7-0 lead on a touchdown run from Jones. Southeast managed to score after recovering on a fumbled punt. Quarterback Jack Strong tied the game on a sneak play with 4:03 left in the first quarter to tie the game.
