- BASEBALL: Fagler Follows In Father's Footsteps, Named New LNE Head Coach
By Jeff Motz
Jeff Fagler has been around Lincoln Northeast baseball all his life.
Fagler, 38, grew up in the Rocket baseball program. His dad, Bill Fagler, coached the Rockets for 22 seasons and had the chance to play for his father for three seasons, where Jeff Fagler earned all-city honors.
Jeff Fagler was named the new head baseball coach at Northeast on Thursday, taking over for Jerry Dittenber, who decided to step down after one season to pursue other business interests.
Dittenber also coached the Northeast Senior Legion team, Judds Brothers Construction, and no official word has been made on who will take over that program next summer.
Until this year, Jeff Fagler had been the junior varsity coach for 11 seasons at Northeast and spent last winter as an assistant coach on the boys basketball team. He was a member of Northeast's 1995 Class A boys state basketball championship squad, which started a four-year title run for the Rockets.
With the hire, Fagler becomes the third new head baseball coach in Lincoln. Nick Schieffer was named the new coach at Lincoln Southwest, after Doug Kaltenberger stepped down after the state tournament in the spring. Lincoln High recently hired Dan Beckmann as its baseball coach, succeeding Todd Sandberg.
