04/06/2015 - BASEBALL: Foster Throws No-Hitter, As LSW Beats LHS

By Jeff Motz

Logan Foster made his mark as one of the more premier pitchers in high school baseball on Monday afternoon.

The Lincoln Southwest junior right-hander struck out 11 batters and kept Lincoln High hitless, as the Silver Hawks won 10-0 in five innings via the run rule at Sherman Field.

Foster struck out the side once in the second inning (striking out five to that point).  He then fanned the Links twice in the third, once in the fourth and three more in the fifth to earn the no-hit shut out.

At the plate, Southwest (8-5) got a boost early when Foster reached on a walk and his courtesy runner, Jonathan Leach, stole second a couple of batters later.  After Jared Jesske and Isaiah Peterson each reached on walks, Chase Gobel delivered a one-out, two-run single to put the Silver Hawks ahead 2-0.

After Connor Sudik reached on another walk and a Max McGuire strikeout, Lincoln High pitcher Jamie Young walked Mitch Conklin and brought home Peterson for a 3-0 LSW lead before Cal White struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Peterson led off with a single, followed by Gobel reaching on a walk.  Sudik and McGuire were each retired, then Conklin reached base on another walk and White hit an RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.

Gobel scored on a past ball and Foster delivered a two-run triple before scoring on an error on the throw back in for an 8-0 lead.

Southwest got two more runs in the fourth inning, before Foster finished the game in the top of the fifth by striking out three of the final four batters he faced.

Lincoln High (4-6) only got two runners on base the entire game.  Donavan Bargen reached off an error in the first inning and Quentin Bohaty drew a walk in the fifth.  The Links also committed three errors.

Young, a left hander, took the loss, after going 2 2/3 innings.
