- From The Press Box:
The All-City and All-State boys and girls basketball teams have been announced and there are no major surprises on who's been selected.
The Lincoln Journal Star's selection seemed to be what I was considering all season long. Lincoln Northeast's Ryan Garver and Tyson Shadegg, Lincoln High's Jason Towery and KeShawn Wilson and Lincoln North Star's Triston Simpson.
This may be the best assembled all-city boys team in quite a while. It's an argumentative point but it's something to think about.
If there may be an alternate to the all-city first team, Sam Morris of Southeast would be in the fold. He is on the second team, with Khan Kailech and Liem Liem of Northeast, Clay Reimers of East and Parkview Christian's Henry Tanksley.
Still, there was considerable boys basketball talent in Lincoln this year and many of the players are returning next season with high expectations to be at the top of their game.
On the girls side, Nebraska women's basketball recruit Maddie Simon of Pius X is the captain of the all-city first team. She's joined by her Pius X teammate Kennedy Sander, Tantashea Giger and Shaneequah Watkins of Northeast and Abby Meader of Southwest.
Chloe Dworak and Taytem Coleman of Lincoln Christian, Regan Sankey of Lincoln East, Briahtia Sebek of Pius X and Nigeria Jones of Northeast make up the second team.
Like the boys, the girls next season should bring plenty of excitement in terms of talent and what teams could make trips to state.
