By Jeff Motz
Lincoln Northeast got its revenge from Norfolk on Thursday afternoon.
The Rockets went on a 13-0 run as part of a 19-3 run in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game and earned a 61-43 victory over the No. 1-rated Panthers in the NSAA Class A Boys State Basketball Tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Northeast (21-5) will now play Omaha South in the Class A semifinals Friday at 7pm. The Packers beat South Sioux City 68-34 in the earlier quarterfinal game.
Tyler Keller, who led all Northeast scorers with 13 points off the bench, sparked the 13-0 run in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer. Then four-straight free throws from Khan Kailech and Tyson Shadegg and another basket from Shadegg put the Rockets ahead 49-40. After Kailech hit three more free throws, Norfolk's Tyler Hagedorn hit a three-pointer, before Northeast pulled away in the final 2:15 with Keller's three-point play to seal the win.
Norfolk trailed much of the game, after Northeast started on a 10-0 run and led 25-22 at halftime. The Panthers lone lead came with 2:20 left in the third quarter when Lane McCallum hit one of two free throws for a 31-30 lead.
Liem Liem hit a basket on the other end for Northeast, then Ryan Garver got his fourth steal and drove to the other end for a basket to extend the Rockets lead to 38-34.
Shadegg and Kailech each added 12 points in the Northeast win, while Garver finished with 11. Hagedorn scored a game-high 14 points for Norfolk, while Travis Larson finished with 10 for the Panthers.
