- BOYS A-6 DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Fourth Quarter Run Seals Win For Millard West
By Jeff Motz
OMAHA---An 18-3 fourth quarter run sealed Millard West's travel plans to the Class A Boys State Basketball tournament.
The Wildcats limited the Knights offensively and took control by earning a 51-29 victory and claim the A-6 Boys Basketball district championship Tuesday night at the Millard West Gym.
Southeast finishes their season with a 7-18 record, after winning a district title and a state tournament appearance a year ago.
Millard West (20-5) had to shake off Southeast for much of the game. After Jace Anderson's three pulled the Knights to within eight of the Wildcats with 31 seconds left in the third quarter, Southeast didn't score until Anderson hit a pair of free throws with 2:40 to play and reserve center Andy Miller made a free throw with under a minute left.
Millard West led much of the way, allowing Southeast the lead briefly at 8-7 midway through the first quarter before taking a 14-9 advantage to start the second period.
The Wildcats got 12 points from 6-8 center Ben Kositzke and Mani Adams added 10 points and five steals.
Southeast was led by Trevor Dockum's 10 points.
