- GIRLS C1-2 DISTRICT BASKETBALL: Crusaders Get Early Start To Earn Trip To State

CRETE---Lincoln Christian wasted no time getting their offense going, thanks in part to Ashlyn Power.
The sophomore scored 12 of her 21 points in the first half and sparked the Crusaders to an 8-0 start, while on their way to a 57-35 victory over Fairbury to win the Class C1-2 district title Friday night at the Haddix Center at Doane College.
Christian (22-4) will likely be a three-seed in the Class C1 girls state basketball tournament that starts next Thursday.
Power scored the first eight points of the game that put the Crusaders up with 5:20 left in the first quarter. She scored on a layup and hit back to back three-pointers, which helped Christian to a 22-9 lead.
Fairbury (13-12) had several opportunities to score, but missed shots turned into baskets on the other end for Christian. The Jeffs shot 27% from the field in the game on 11-41 shooting, while connecting on 3-of-15 from the three-point arc.
Christian extended their lead to 45-22 after three and Taytem Coleman hit a three to open up the fourth quarter, before Fairbury mounted a 9-0 run and trailed 48-31 with 4:40 left.
The Crusaders managed to out score the Jeffs 9-5 in the final three minutes of the game to seal the win.
Coleman was the only other player in double figures for Christian with 11 points. Shelby Pollman, who helped in the fourth quarter comeback, finished with 13 points for Fairbury, while Sidney Pollman added 11 in the loss.
