01/17/2015 - BOYS BASKETBALL: Wilson's First Quarter Performance Boosts Links

KeShawn Wilson became a problem for Lincoln Northeast on Saturday night.

The 6-2 Lincoln High senior guard scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter to helped the Class A 3rd-ranked Links to a 68-60 boys basketball victory Saturday night at the Ed Johnson Gym.

Northeast switched to a box and one on Wilson, putting senior forward Derrick Curtis on him and limiting his offensive production.  While the clamps were put on Wilson, Lincoln High's top-scorer, Jason Towery, stepped in by scoring 14 of his 16 points in the second half.

With the Links leading 42-32 in the third quarter, a three-point play by Ryan Garver helped cut the deficit for Northeast to seven.

Lincoln High (13-2) led 48-43 in the early part of the fourth quarter after Northeast center Khan Kailech scored off a putback and hit a free throw.  Two minutes later, Kailech was whistled for his fourth and fifth fouls, even picking up a technical as he was walking back to the bench.  That resulted in three of four free throws made by Wilson and Jamie Davis.

Northeast (9-4) had a short rally behind basket from Liem Liem and a three-pointer from Tyson Shadegg to cut the deficit to three, 51-48, with 4:23 left in the game.

But Wilson came through late in the game, with a three-pointer with 3:30 to play to give Lincoln High a 54-48 lead.  Tim Brock also helped the Links during the stretch, by scoring six of his 13 points from the free-throw line and Towery added some late free throws to seal the win.

Liem added 12 points for Northeast, while Shadegg and Trace Tupper each finished with 10 points a piece.
