- GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rockets Rally Behind Holscher
By Jeff Motz
Jamie Holscher became clutch when her Lincoln Northeast teammates needed a spark.
The 5-8 senior guard scored all eight of her points in the final quarter to rally the Class A No. 2 Rockets to a 66-55 victory over Lincoln East in girls basketball on Friday night at the East Gym.
Northeast (12-0) trailed most of the game, down by as much as eight points before the late run.
After hitting her first tray earlier in the quarter, Holscher's three-pointer with 3:45 left in the game put the Rockets ahead for good at 55-53. She then scored on the following Northeast possession during a 7-0 run.
Meanwhile, the Rockets capitalized from there by outscoring the Spartans 14-2 in the final three minutes of the game. Some help during the run came at the free-throw line from senior guard Tantashea Giger, who had a game-high 28 points, 15 of which came during the second half.
Nine turnovers proved to be the difference in the final period for East, who falls to 7-6 on the year. That hurt the Spartans' 51-46 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Rocket rally.
Nigeria Jones finished with 11 points for Northeast and Shaneequah Watkins added 10 points in the victory.
Regan Sankey had a team-high 16 points to lead East, while teammate Caroline Spethman chipped in 14 before fouling out.
