- BOYS BASKETBALL: Prep Flexes Muscle, Shuts Down East High
By Jeff Motz
Class A top-ranked Omaha Creighton Prep wasted no time in showing why they are tough.
The Junior Jays used a full-court press early and forced turnovers, while over powering Lincoln East offensively and racing off to a 17-4 start before winning 83-47 Saturday night at the East Gym.
Prep (12-0) busted the game wide open. The Junior Jays outscored the Spartans 29-13 in the second quarter alone, as Joey Machado scored 11 of his team-high 13 points in the first half. Eight of those points were in the second quarter. Fellow reserve Aguir Agau had a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Junior Jays.
East (5-7) simply couldn't find any rhythm offensively. But sophomore guard Hunter McPhail did provide a second half spark, finishing with a game-high 14 points.
Behind the arc, Prep was 52% on 11-of-21 on three-pointers. On the boards, the Junior Jays won the rebounding battle 39-27.
