- BOYS BASKETBALL: Third Quarter Run Propels Norris Past Waverly
By Jeff Motz
FIRTH---It didn't matter if Norris only had one win heading into Friday night's matchup with Waverly. What did matter was how the Titans tilted the advantage in the second half of their game with the Vikings.
That included a 10-0 run that helped in Norris' 63-47 win over Waverly at the Norris Middle School gym.
After a 24-22 halftime lead, the Titans connected on a three-pointer for an early third quarter lead before the Vikings tied the game at 27.
But a Kris Nitzsche three-pointer sparked the 10-0 Norris run midway through the third quarter for a 37-27 lead. The Titans went on another scoring spurt to start the fourth quarter, by outscoring the Vikings 12-2 and taking a 56-36 lead with 3:48 remaining.
In all, Norris outscored Waverly 39-25 in the final 16 minutes of the game and never looked back. The Vikings, who had a slight height advantage, could not shutdown Titan big men Beau Bucher and Kolten Meyer. Bucher led Norris with 13 points and senior guard Bryton Bell added 10 points in the win. Meyer scored six points off the bench for Norris, who improves to 2-8.
Waverly, who falls to 4-5, got a game-high 18 points from junior guard Jaron Bricker.
