- GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rocket Full-Court Press Too Much For Knights
By Jeff Motz
Full-court pressure worked for Lincoln Northeast in stopping Lincoln Southeast early and often.
The Class A No. 7 Rockets prompted the Knights to turn the ball over and helped them earn a 56-38 victory Saturday night at the Prasch Center.
Southeast picked up a 22-21 lead late in the second quarter when back to back three-pointers from Alex Barada gave the Knights the final lead of the game. Northeast (6-0) rallied on a 13-0 run that extended into the first two minutes of the third quarter.
Shaqneeuah Watkins hit a pair of free-throws, then Tantashea Giger added two more charity tosses, before Nigeria Jones hit a layup just before the end of the first half for a 27-22 Rocket lead.
Northeast built up a 52-33 halfway through the fourth quarter before holding on for the win.
Giger led the Rockets with a game-high 21 points, while Watkins added 15 points and Jones finished with 13 points.
Barada had a team-high 10 points for Southeast, who falls to 2-4.
