- From The Press Box: City Race In Boys Basketball Heats Up For Links and Rockets
Perhaps, the two best boys basketball teams in Lincoln may want to have their Christmas wish granted late in the season.
Winning the city championship seems to be on the radar screen for Lincoln High and Lincoln Northeast.
Both teams are playing good basketball heading into the Christmas holiday weekend and look to meet each other in the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament Dec. 29-31. Ultimately, what will likely decide the city championship will be the meeting between the Links and Rockets on Jan. 17 at Northeast's Ed Johnson Gym.
But, things could change between now and then, too.
Lincoln High is starting to live up to expectations of being very competitive, while Northeast is proving critics wrong after a successful start to the season. It's a matter of whether these two teams can stay on par to be head to head with one another in the race for a city title.
A two thumbs up for Lincoln High senior center Jason Towery, who scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the 71-51 win over Lincoln Southwest on Friday night.
Towery took charge of the paint in the second half of the game, grabbing as many rebounds as he could and scoring on put backs. His presence has definitely drawn interest from some local area colleges. Jim Weeks of Doane and Dale Wellman of Nebraska Wesleyan were among those coaches in attendance of Friday night's game and were very pleased with his style of play.
At this time of the year, we take time out to remember it's about being with family and celebrating what life is all about.
From all of us at LincolnPrepSports.com, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
