- FOOTBALL: Fourth Quarter Rally Helps North Star Past Lincoln High
By Jeff Motz
All it took was one play for Lincoln North Star to pick up momentum.
That lone play was a key interception from linebacker Braden Dey in the fourth quarter that set up the first Navigator touchdown of the game while enroute to a 14-10 comeback win over Lincoln High Thursday night at Seacrest Field.
Dey's interception set up a six-play, 35-yard scoring drive capped by a six-yard touchdown run from quarterback Trevin Ball that put North Star within striking distance at 10-7 with 7:01 left in the game.
A quick three-and-out from Lincoln High set up a one-play 55-yard touchdown run from Keanu Russell for the go-ahead score with 5:14 remaining.
The Gators (4-4) managed to overcome six fumbles in the first three quarters, four of which they lost. Lincoln High's defense was key during that stretch.
While the Links offense was stagnant, the special teams and defense came through early. Jose Perez-Blanco booted a 43-yard field goal with 8:23 remaining in the first half to put Lincoln High up 3-0.
Just four plays into North Star's next drive, Isiah Washington intercepted Ball's pass and returned it 47-yards for a touchdown to put the Links ahead 10-0.
North Star finishes the regular season next Friday against Lincoln Southwest with playoff qualifications at stake. Lincoln High (0-8) will look to avoid going winless, when they play at Omaha Northwest next week.
