- FOOTBALL: Lambert Sparks Tigers Over Rockets
By Jeff Motz
Sean Lambert spoiled Homecoming for Lincoln Northeast on Thursday night.
The Fremont running back racked up over 200 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns, including a 67-yard run that proved to be the dagger in the Tigers' 35-3 victory over the Rockets at Seacrest Field.
Lambert, along with quarterback Bradyn Thomas, were able to split the Northeast defense by combining for 288 yards on the ground, as part of Fremont's 398 yards of total offense.
Fremont (3-2) ended their first drive when Thomas threw an interception to Northeast's Xavier Haggan, who returned it 60 yards down field. But the Rockets turned it over three plays later when Trevor Petersen's pass was intercepted.
A three-and-out on Fremont's next possession set up a promising Northeast drive that saw the Rockets move the ball down field, only to be turned away when Haggan fumbled the ball at the Fremont 5-yard line and it rolled into the end zone for a touchback.
That turned the momentum and set up an 80-yard drive for the Tigers, capped by an 8-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Thomas with 20 seconds left in the first quarter and a 7-0 Fremont lead.
Greene caught a 24-yard pass for the game's second touchdown with 2:31 left before halftime and put the Tigers up 14-0.
It was Lambert's 67-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that came shortly after the Rockets got a 33-yard field goal from Cody Gronewald, that put the game away for good.
Thomas added another touchdown late in the third quarter and Lambert capped the scoring late in the game with a 3-yard scoring run.
Northeast (2-3) only accumulated 193 yards on offense, 53 of them on the ground.
