- CLASS B STATE BASEBALL: PIUS X WINS THREE GAMES IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS TO WIN STATE TITLE

PAPILLION---Lincoln Pius X proved to be the marathon men in the past 24 hours while on their way to being crowned state baseball champions.
The Thunderbolts had a late night Wednesday to beat defending champ Norris in 12 innings, turned around 12 hours later to beat Elkhorn and capped it off by earning a 7-5 victory over Omaha Skutt to win the Class B state title Thursday afternoon at Werner Park.
Pius X (26-6) claimed their second championship in school history and the second title in a three-year span. Only Norris upended the Thunderbolts in last year's championship.
After an early 5-0 start, Pius X picked up a 6-2 lead entering the top of the 4th inning. That's when Skutt responded with a two-out, two-run homer from Beau Litz to narrow the deficit to two. A sacrifice fly from Ben Wenke scores a run in the fifth for the Skyhawks with the 'Bolts still ahead 6-5. and
Kyle O'Neill's pitching kept Pius' offense quiet. Ten Thunderbolt hitters were retired in a row until Brandon Utrup singled in the sixth. He advanced on a bunt, a sac fly ball and scored on an error for what would be the game's final run.
Skutt got runners at 1st and 3rd with two out in the 7th, when Wenke struck out against relief pitcher Ryan Junker to seal the win.
Pius X jumped out right away in the first inning when Nolan Hakel had a bases clearing triple and later scored on a two-run homer from Nolan Meyer for a 5-0 lead. Skutt responded in the second with two runs off a Justin McGill single and Connor Pick bunt. Pius X's Colton Abendroth drove in the other run for the 'Bolts in the second to give them a 6-2 lead.
Skutt finishes the year at 19-8.
