PAPILLION---Wednesday night's Class B state baseball tournament game with Lincoln Pius X and Norris at Werner Park was like two heavyweights in a world title fight.

But it was the Thunderbolts who came through in the top of the 12th and got the go ahead run and relief pitcher Sam Donlan retired three straight Titan batters in the bottom of the inning to earn an 8-7 victory and advance to the final three in the championship round Thursday of the NSAA Class B State Baseball Tournament.

Alex Utrup got on base in the 12th on a two-base error committed by third baseman Grant Albers.  Then Colton Abendroth laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Utrup to third.  Twin brother, Brandon Utrup, had a sac fly to score Alex Utrup for what turned out to be the game winning run.

The win for Pius X (24-6) puts them up against Elkhorn in the 10am game at Werner Park, with the winner to play Omaha Skutt for the Class B championship that would follow.

Norris picked up an early 1-0 in the first.  But Nolan Hakel had a two-run double, then stole third base and scored off a pickoff attempt that put the Thunderbolts ahead 3-1 in the second.

In the fourth, Pius X picked up another run, when Brandon Utrup single, then advanced on a sac bunt and past ball.  Nolan Meyer's safety squeeze scored Utrup and put the Thunderbolts up 4-1.

Michael Helman reached by beating a throw to first after laying down a bunt.  He later scored on a fielder's choice and Pius X led 5-1 in the top of the 5th.

Norris got some key hitting in the bottom of the 5th, when Byron Hood picked up a two-run single and later scored off an RBI single from Jake Peterson with the Titans trailing 5-4.

Cole Felber led off the sixth for Pius with a single and eventually scored on an error that put Thunderbolts ahead 6-4.  But it was a two-run single from Kolton Meyer that kept Norris in the game and eventually sent the game to extra innings with a 6-6 tie.

Neither team would score until the 10th, when Nolan Walker was hit by a pitch and later advanced on a sacrifice and past ball and scored off a bunt single by Helman for a 7-6 lead.

Norris wouldn't go away.  Meyer tripled and later scored of an RBI single from Josh Gutzmer to force a 7-7 tie after 10 innings.

The Titans, who finish the year at 25-4, committed six errors in the game.
