Omaha Burke's 16-3 second quarter run helped them shake off Lincoln East and survive a late surge from the Spartans.

The Bulldogs also finished the first half on a 7-0 run in the final minute before earning a 59-48 win Friday in boys basketball at the East Gym.

When Shane Watteyne's three-pointer gave East an early 16-15 lead in the second quarter, Burke (12-7)

Trey Carr's layup extended the lead to ten before stealing the ball and feeding the ball to Nick McCulloch for a layup just before the buzzer for a 31-19 halftime lead.

East (11-10) trailed by eight in the third quarter after Bryan Reimers hit a pair of free throws.  But after Spartan forward RJ Dennis stole the ball with three seconds left, Dartan Henderson stole the ball and hit a three-pointer at the buzzer that boost the Bulldog lead to 44-33.

One more late surge was left for East in the fourth quarter and got as close as six when Watteyne hit a three-pointer with 1:01 left with the Spartans trailing 54-48.  Carr hit two free throws and Jack Dresslar sank three more to seal the win.

East had an early lead in the first quarter, sparked by the play of 6-6 senior center Jerry Cunning.  He scored nine of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter.  Reimers and Watteyne each has 12 points for the Spartans.

Carr led all Burke scorers with 13 points, while McCulloch added 11 and Henderson, Wanjang Tut and Noah Fant each added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
