- FOOTBALL: Dragons Fly Past Titans
By Jeff Motz
FIRTH---Gretna struck first and in a hurry.
Thanks to a penalty, the Dragons capitalized on the first drive of the game that lasted six plays and 35 yards and capped off by Brady Radik 2-yard run into the end zone that jump started a 36-3 victory over Norris on homecoming Friday night at Norris High School.
In a little more than two minutes of game time that it took to set up Radik's touchdown, Norris spent the final 9:10 of the first quarter with the ball, only to have the drive get as close as the Dragon 18-yard line that set up Bryton Bell's 32-yard field goal, trailing 7-3.
The night would get worse for Norris and Gretna soared.
Eight seconds into the second quarter, Tyler Ballard rushed for a one-yard touchdown run to extend Gretna's lead. Norris' A.J. Flodman blocked the extra point and Gretna led 13-3. Quarterback Nick Stoltenberg later found Connor Shedeed on a 35-yard touchdown pass, but the two point conversion failed and the Dragons lead 19-3.
Gretna (3-0) picked up a field goal and added a touchdown pass from Stoltenberg to Jordan Batenhorst for a 29-3 third quarter lead. Shedeed added the final touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Norris baseball star Jakson Reetz did not suit up for tonight's game. The senior and Nebraska had just returned from earning the USA Baseball 18-and-under world cup and will start working out next week.
