09/08/2013 - From The Press Box: Metro Emerging As Football Power Once Again
Two games into the football season and already the Metro Conference is clearly ahead of the pack in the Class A ratings.

Comes as no surprise to me.

Nothing against the Lincoln teams, but the football power has been in Omaha for quite some time.  All three Millard schools are prime examples.  If you go back to 1995, any one of those three teams have won or finished runner-up in Class A.  Lincoln Southeast, Omaha Creighton Prep, Kearney, Omaha Central and Papillion-LaVista have been the exceptions, winning championships against or none of the Millard teams.

Four out of the last five championships have been won by Millard teams, with Millard North winning in 2010 and 2012.  The 2008, 2009 and 2010 title games pitted All three schools against one another.  You catch my drift?  The youth programs in Millard and in Omaha proper are top notch.

In Lincoln, Midget Football has been around for more than 60 years.  There have been great teams and players, but it seems as if the power struggle with the Metro has temporarily been lost.

But not to worry, the season is still young and there are some Lincoln teams that could be in contention for spots in the playoffs.

With this week's ratings, Millard West remains No. 1 after defeating last year's state champ Millard North 24-14.  The Mustangs fall out of the ratings for now.  Southeast stays in at No. 7, while Southwest falls out after the 21-3 loss at Grand Island.

Apologies for equipment malfunction

Those of you listening to the Southeast/Lincoln High game Friday afternoon, you have my sincere apologies for the poor quality in the broadcast.  Some new piece of equipment is to blame and we're working out the bugs to get that straightened out for next week.

Reminders......

The finalized high school basketball broadcast schedule will be released the week of October 4.  Remember the schedule is subject to change.
